The following tables show our selected consolidated financial information for the past five fiscal years as revised to reflect the restatement. The selected consolidated statement of operations data for each of the three years ended December 31, 2004 and the balance sheet data as of December 31, 2004 and 2003 are derived from our consolidated financial statements, as revised to reflect the restatement more fully discussed in Note 12 to the consolidated financial statements, that have been audited by KPMG LLP and are included in this Annual Report on Form 10-K/A (Amendment No. 2). The selected consolidated financial data as of December 31, 2002, 2001 and 2000 and for the years ended December 31 2001 and 2000 have been derived from our unaudited consolidated financial statements. The comparability of the information is affected by a variety of factors, including the adoption of a new accounting principle, a divestiture of one of our businesses and purchases under our stock repurchase programs.
In December 2004 we sold our custom antibody and peptides business. We accounted for the sale of this business as discontinued operations and, accordingly, we have reclassified the selected financial data for all periods prior to the sale to reflect the custom antibodies and peptides business as discontinued operations. To better understand the information in the tables, investors should read “Management’s Discussion and Analysis of Financial Condition and Results of Operations” and the Consolidated Financial Statements and related Notes included elsewhere in this Annual Report on Form 10-K/A (Amendment No. 2).
