On 29 January 2007, Alcan Inc. ("Company"), issued a press release announcing the appointment of Jeffrey E. Garten as Director of the Company effective 1 February 2007, attached hereto as exhibit 99.1.

The Board of Directors has not yet determined committee membership for Mr. Garten.
