Vifor Pharma's beneficial ownership of the common stock referred to herein is being reported solely because Vifor Pharma may be deemed to beneficially own 7,396,770 shares of Common Stock of Cara Therapeutics, Inc. as a result of its indirect ownership of 100% of the equity interests of Vifor (International) and 55% of the equity interests of VFMCRP.
